After the lost by fire of his recording studio in Kébémer (Senegal) 1 year ago, the master percussionist Cheikh Ma Djimbira Ndiaye alias Ndigueul Mc took the evil by the horns and did what he then considered the most urgent: to save the memory of the percussions, not to replace the 170 which had burned, in order to never lose anything again.

In total d.i.y. and in self-production, Ndigueul Mc then starts making a documentary film on the origins and meanings of the traditional Senegalese percussions, from their primordial roles in the society to the spirituality of these instruments. For months, the team scoured Senegal in search of hunters, breeders, artisans, healers, musicians, griots, scientists, therapists, wrestlers to explore the history of these drums, from their designs to constructions. Because the materials that constitute the percussions are not chosen at random and correspond to a whole know-how, to a ritual of manufacture, of use which is intimately linked to the Sacred. Wood, skins, sticks, strings, any material that makes up the percussions is extracted from nature in a traditional and ritual way and then merged into an instrument which will finally have a mystical and therapeutic function more than just playful.

So far, Ndigueul Mc has financed everything out of his own pocket. He lacks € 7,000 to finish post-production (mainly editing).

Après l’incendie de son studio d’enregistrement à Kébémer (Sénégal) il y a 1 an, le maître percussionniste Cheikh Ma Djimbira Ndiaye alias Ndigueul Mc a pris le mal par les cornes et fait ce qu’il retenait alors le plus urgent : sauvegarder la mémoire des percussions, non pour remplacer les 170 qui avaient brûlées, mais pour ne plus jamais rien perdre.

En total d.i.y. et auto-production, Ndigueul Mc s’attelle alors à la réalisation d’un film documentaire sur les origines et significations des percussions traditionnelles du Sénégal, depuis leurs rôles primordiaux dans la société jusqu’à la spiritualité de ces instruments. Pendant des mois, l'équipe a parcouru le Sénégal à la recherche de chasseurs, d'éleveurs, d'artisans, de guérisseurs, de musiciens, de griots, de scientifiques, de thérapeutes, de lutteurs pour explorer l'histoire de ces tambours, et ce depuis leurs conceptions et constructions. Car les matières qui constituent les percussions ne sont pas choisies au hasard et répondent à tout un savoir faire, à un rituel de fabrication, d'utilisation qui est intimement lié au sacré. Le bois, les peaux, les baguettes, les cordes, toute matière composante des percussions est extraite de la nature d’une façon traditionnelle et rituelle pour ensuite se confondre dans un instrument qui aura enfin une fonction mystique et thérapeutique plus que simplement ludique.

Jusqu’à présent, Ndigueul Mc a tout financé de sa poche. Il lui manque 7.000 € pour finir la post-production (principalement le montage).
